Zomato becomes first Indian startup to enter Sensex 30
Foodtech giant Zomato has made history as the first Indian startup to join the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex 30, replacing JSW Steel Limited in the benchmark index of Indiaโs top 30 companies. Zomato's inclusion in the SENSEX follows its strong performance over the past year. The stock has gained 38% in the past six months, 124.79% year-to-date, and 114.29% over the last year.
OYO completes acquisition of G6 Hospitality
Global travel tech company OYO has acquired G6 Hospitality, operators of Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands, from Blackstone Real Estate for $525 million. The deal is projected to increase OYO's EBITDA to over Rs 2,000 crore ($238 million) in FY26. Motel 6 is expected to contribute an EBITDA of over Rs 630 crore ($75 million) in the coming financial year, which will be the first full year of its integration.
Drone startup Garuda Aerospace's patent count touches 20
Drone startup Garuda Aerospace on Monday said that the company has been granted 20 patents, including six international patents covering a range of agriculture drone solutions spanning mapping, surveying, spraying, inspections, crop health monitoring, field surveillance, yield monitoring, seed dropping and more.
Meta is in a spot of bother as ChatGPT comes to WhatsApp
OpenAI's launch of a WhatsApp account may put pressure on Meta's own AI assistant that, CEO Mark Zuckerberg had earlier said, would aim to become the world's most used consumer chatbot. However, OpenAI's move to foray into WhatsApp would impact Meta AIโs reach.
Funding Deals
Retail advisory platform Univest has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round led by Bertelsmann India Investments (BII).
Mindgrove Technologies, a fabless semiconductor design startup, has raised $8 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Rocketship.vc and Speciale Invest. The round also witnessed participation from Mela Ventures and existing investors Peak XV Partners, Nishchay Goel, Whiteboard Capital, and Anshul Goel.
Direct-to-consumer (D2C) haircare brand Arata has secured $4 million (approximately Rs 34 crore) in a Series A funding round led by Unilever Ventures. BOLD, the venture capital arm of L'Orรฉal, and existing investor Skywalker Family Office participated.
Sustainable investment platform SustVest has raised $1.7 million in its pre-Series A round in mix of equity and debt led by Inflection Point Ventures and Antler along with participation from WEH ventures, Venture Catalysts, Soonicorn Ventures, FAAD Network, and others.
