India to develop own generative AI model: Ashwini Vaishnaw
India is set to enter the artificial intelligence (AI) arena with the launch of its foundational model later this year, union minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The large language model (LLM), tailored specifically for India, will be powered by the India AI Compute Facility. The facility has secured 19,000 graphics processing units (GPUs), surpassing its target of 10,000 GPUs.
Wipro bags five-year multi-million contract from Etihad Airways
Wipro, India’s fourth largest IT services major, has bagged a multi-million-dollar deal for a five-year tenure from Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to lead its technology modernisation, the company announced on Thursday. The financial details of the deal remained undisclosed.
OfBusiness converts into public company ahead of IPO
Industrial goods and services procurement platform OfBusiness is preparing for a definitive initial public offering (IPO) in 2025. The company has taken its first significant step toward going public by converting into a public entity. The board at OfBusiness has approved a resolution to change its status to a public company and rename it from "OFB Tech Private Limited" to "OFB Tech Limited," according to its regulatory filing.
Microsoft shares slide 5% as cloud forecast, AI spending disappoint
Microsoft announced results for the quarter ended December 31, 2024. Its shares dropped 4.5% in after-hours trading as investors expressed concerns over the company's high spending and competition from cheaper Chinese AI models such as DeepSeek.
Funding Deals
The software provider for IT management services SuperOps has raised $25 million in its Series C funding round, led by existing investor March Capital, with participation from Lee Fixel’s Addition and Z47 (formerly Matrix Partners India).
Teen self-care brand Sammmm has secured Rs 10 crore ($1.2 million) in a seed funding round. The round was led by Fireside Ventures, with participation from Sauce VC and angel investors Nihir Parikh, Sachin Parikh, and Shantanu & Nikhil Mehra.
Spiritual and devotion platform Utsav has raised Rs 6.35 crore in a funding round led by Mumbai-based venture capital fund Equanimity Investments.
