India Conquers the 2024 T20 World Cup!
Here are all the thrilling highlights and important statistics that defined this historic triumph.
Dear Indians,
We are thrilled to bring you the exciting news that India has won the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup!
In an incredible display of skill and teamwork, India secured their second T20 World Cup title, having previously won the inaugural edition in 2007.
Let's delve into the remarkable achievements and statistics that made this victory unforgettable.
Historic Feats and Records
Unbeaten Champions:
India became the first team to win the Men's T20 World Cup without losing a single game. They won all eight matches they played, with one washout against Canada in the first round. This incredible run of eight consecutive wins is the joint-longest winning streak in the tournament's history, matched only by Australia (2022 and 2024) and South Africa (until their recent defeat).
Toss Winners and Final Victories:
India's victory adds to the impressive record of teams winning the toss in T20 World Cup finals, now standing at 8-1. Only Sri Lanka has lost a final after winning the toss, back in 2009 against Pakistan. This win also marks the third instance of a team defending their total in a final, following India in 2007 and West Indies in 2012.
Dual Title Holders:
India joins West Indies and England as the third team to win the Men's T20 World Cup twice. West Indies won in 2012 and 2016, while England clinched titles in 2010 and 2022.
Individual Brilliance
Rohit Sharma's Milestones:
Rohit Sharma, now one of only nine players to win two T20 World Cup finals, led the team with distinction. At 37 years and 60 days, Rohit is the oldest captain to win a T20 World Cup and the second-oldest to win an ICC tournament, behind Imran Khan. His leadership record is unparalleled, with an 8-0 win-loss record in T20 finals and 49 wins out of 62 T20Is as captain.
Virat Kohli's Accolades:
Virat Kohli continues to set records, earning his 16th Player-of-the-Match award in T20Is, the most by any player. Eight of these awards have come in T20 World Cups, highlighting his consistent performance on the big stage.
Virat Kohli is one of only two players in the winning team in the finals of all three ICC white-ball events (ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy). MS Dhoni was the first to achieve this, and he did it as a captain.
Fastest Fifty in a Final:
Heinrich Klaasen's blistering 23-ball fifty against India in the final set a new benchmark for the fastest half-century in any Men's T20 World Cup final.
Unforgettable Match Stats
Record-Breaking Scores:
India's total of 176 for 7 against South Africa in the final is the highest by any team in a Men's T20 World Cup final. The match aggregate of 345 runs ties for the highest in the tournament's history.
Near Misses for South Africa:
South Africa needed 30 runs with six wickets in hand at the start of the 16th over but fell short, marking the second-lowest percentage of target runs any team failed to chase in the last five overs with six or more wickets in hand.
A Glorious Journey
This journey has been a testament to the determination, skill, and spirit of our team.
