Piyush Goyal calls upon startups to help India become self-reliant in energy, defence sectors💪🏻
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday called for startups to help India become self-reliant in Energy and Defence sectors while citing an example of the COVID-19 pandemic which was converted into an opportunity.
Piyush Goyal said one can find many opportunities, like even in the current war crisis. The present Ukraine-Russia crisis is a wake-up call for all of us, not to be dependent on crude oil and defence equipment. He asked Startups to help India become self-reliant in energy needs.
He also said that the present situation fits in so beautifully in the Make in India program launched 8 years ago, - the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, and the outcome of Covid-19, everything collectively is helping India’s growth trajectory.
The Minister assured the Startups that the government was listening to their needs and that its doors are open 24×7.
Unacademy goes phygital, launches first experience centre📚
Taking the phygital💡 route, edtech player Unacademy has launched an experience store in Delhi called ‘Unacademy Store’. The firm plans to open three more stores in Jaipur, Lucknow, and Kota in 6-8 weeks.
Unacademy has launched its first experiential store in New Delhi to serve as an offline touchpoint for learners to help them browse and experience Unacademy’s various offerings. The store further expands its offering to on-ground counselling with experts, meeting with educators, providing a holistic experience to the learners.
Moreover, the stores will serve two purposes; they will cater to the new learners offering them an experience of Unacademy’s product, and existing learners can visit and engage with the experts.
Unacademy is not the only startup to take the omnichannel approach. Its rival and India’s most valuable startup Byju’s earlier announced its plan to open 500 physical centres.

What is phygital?
Phygital is the concept of using technology to bridge the digital world with the physical world with the purpose of providing a unique interactive experiences for the user.

Online accommodation platform Airbnb announced the opening of a new technology hub in Bengaluru to help it serve its "global community". The Bengaluru technology hub will aim to create local, skilled jobs, with plans for the centre to cater to a few hundred people in the initial phases, followed by an expanded footprint in the future, the company said in a statement.
"India is an incredibly important market for Airbnb. The opening of this technology hub will further our ongoing investment in the nation and is a testament to our long-term vision for growing our business locally into the future," Airbnb Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Nathan Blecharczyk said.
